Imitation of Life is her fourth book of poems, following the publication of What Keeps Us Here (1992), Soul Train (1997), and In Every Seam (1997). Her awards include an Individual Artist's Fellowship in Poetry from the Illinois Art Council, fellowships from the Bread Loaf and Sewanee Writers Conferences, and a literary award from the Illinois Arts Council.
