I started writing poetry at the age of twelve. It was my way of expressing exactly what I wanted to say, as I was very much introverted. I was raised on many country acres, mostly by my grandparents, in a very small town called Lobo in Ontario, Canada. I dreamed then, and still to this day, of one day being a writer and having people recognize my name for something I said to the world. That dream still lingers, but I feel as though I’m on my way. I grew up way ahead of my time; my father was an alcoholic and narcotic user. He was quite abusive at times, and that in itself forced me ahead of my years. My father has since recovered, and we now have a great, loving relationship—my mother included. I have dabbled in my fair share of trouble. Booze, drugs, and boyfriends came and went, and, for a long time, I just didn’t care. My first child, Hailey, came when I was eighteen years old—she was my world and I didn’t know it until it was too late. Tragically, at the young age of eight, Hailey died in a house fire. I was numbed. I gradually created a new beginning for myself and began to appreciate life for what I can make it. I opened up and expressed emotions, and I have been a stronger, better person ever since. My vision in hindsight is definitely 20/20. I will not live with any more regret—EVER!
