Jody Howard is having a difficult time coming to grips with the fact that he didnt reach his childhood dream of being a major leaguer. Jodys late father, Joe, had major league talent, possessing a throwing arm that was almost legendary in the area. Joe had once been offered a contract by his beloved Chicago Cubs, but was forced to turn it down because his young wife, Ruth, was seriously ill, from complications after giving birth to Jody. Although Jody showed much promise during his earlier playing days, he let fear and guilt curtail his lofty aspirations. After confiding in his widowed mother of his feelings, Ruth Howard prays for help for her son. Through divine intervention, Jody is then apparently given his fathers arm to pursue a major league career. Jody, his girlfriend Beth, and those close to him embark on the pursuit of the cherished dream, ultimately jeopardizing other dreams Jody didnt even realize he had.
