Gunny Storms, a mischievous but likeable former Marine, moves into Sunny Shores, a senior citizen development, and turns the staid neighborhood upside down. His freewheeling antics and bigger-than-life persona revitalizes the lives of several of his sedentary neighbors, who soon become his best buddies. Gunny's occasional eccentricity leads to many clashes with Abner Storch, the straight-laced, by-the-book manager of Sunny Shores. Life has its ups and downs for Gunny, his wife, Miz Dorie and his buddies not the least of which is a killer tornado that wreaks havoc on the development. When Gunny is stricken with a devastating disease, Miz Dorie and his buddies are forced to deal with his changing personality and bizarre behavior. It's never easy for any of them, but they manage to keep things on an even keel. Like the old Marine he is, Gunny fights his disease with courage and never gives in to it.
