The primary subject of this book was art throughout the ages. The subject was primarily art sculptures and architecture. It was very thorough, and helped me write a majority of my papers.read more
The section in regards to Greek architecture was least helpful because it was very bland and it seemed like the eras all ran together. There was very little differentiation between the classes of architecture. It was boring, and I became disinterested.
There was a lot of history *obviously* that I didn't realize occured in a parallel time frame. I enjoyed the images, they were interesting to look at, and lots of fun to think about.read more
I never used the online access. Didn't need it. - The book was adequate, and the way my instructor taught the class we just didn't need to dig into the information that deeply.
The only recommendation that I can make about this book is to remove some of the content and spend more time developing a few main artists of each era. I felt overwhelmed at times with the bombardment of artists and their different artworks within each chapter. Paragraph to paragraph was another artist and their works with no real way to tie them together other than they lived relatively close to one another. More distinction and description of individual artists would be helpfull. For example more background and clarity between each artist's origin. Once again, I must say that the influence of religion on art throughout time was by far the most interesting aspect of these books. I am not very religious, but understanding and accepting of those that are. I have a difficult time comprehending life during these time periods and dedicating ones life work to a church. This book exemplifies the changes that every society and culture have made and gives insight as to why we are the way we are.
i have never read any other book on the same matterread more
im not sure im not a big art fan and this book was very dry to me but it may just be my personality
