Fanshawe (the then Commissioner of the Delhi Division) is certainly the most exhaustive work on the history, and monuments of Delhi published till then. There had been a lot of scholars who wrote on Delhi, namely, Mr. Beresford, Mr. Cooper, Captain Harcourt and Mr. H.G. Keene. Amongst the most noteworthy had been Mr. Carr Stephens, whose book "Archaeology of Delhi", was a translation of Sir Syed Ahmad's "Asar-i-Sanadid", which was never corrected and updated.
