Lex Williford has taught in the writing programs at Southern Illinois University and the University of Alabama. His collection of stories, Macauley's Thumb, was cowinner of the 1993 Iowa Short Fiction Award. He currently teaches in the bilingual MFA program at the University of Texas at El Paso. Michael Martone is the author of five books of short fiction and a novel called The Blue Guide to Indiana, and he has edited two collections of essays about the Midwest. His most recent book, The Flatness and Other Landscapes, winner of the 1998 Associated Writing Programs Award for Creative Nonfiction, was published by the University of Georgia Press. He is a professor of English and creative writing at the University of Alabama and a faculty member of the MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College.
