Summary: Charles L. Byrne earned his BA from Georgetown University and his MA and Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh, where he studied Mathematics. From 1979 to 1993 he was a consultant to the Acoustics Division, US Naval Research Laboratory. During that time he also served as chair of the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell.
