The Church on The Hill is as much a symbol of good and evil as it is a place of worship. The story centers around the lives of The Pridemore family and the other members of the church on the hill. Stephen Henry, the middle Pridemore child, spends endless hours in the solitude of the forest behind their tiny home with his constant companion, the old dog, T-Bone. It is there he finds and talks to God. When his father is crippled, and T-Bone killed in a hunting accident, the boy rejects God. He joins The Marine Corps and goes on a killing spree in the jungles of Vietnam. After being discharged, he violently murders a drug dealer, and is sent to prison. Upon release from prison, he disappears into the deep forest of southern Kentucky for twenty-five years. There, he returns to God. As the world is erupting in wars and major natural disasters, it is he who God has prepared to pronounce the final warning to the world, which begins with the wicked congregation at The Church on The Hill.
