Indisputably one of America's foremost maritime artists, Christopher Blossom grew up in New England. With an early love for the sea, Christopher has sailed under square rig aboard various sail training vessels including the USCG Barque Eagle. His father, David, an art director with J. Walter Thompson and later a well respected Western artist, encouraged Christopher to combine his love for water and his talent with paint and canvas. Known for his complex, detailed compositions of ships at sea, Blossom joins his appreciation for the beauty and the menace of the sea with his passion for maritime history. Striving for historical accuracy, ships and harbors are combined with color, light and compostion to capture the mood of a voyage and convey the essence of the seafaring experience.Blossom has exhibited his art at the Gilcrease Museum, the Colorado Museum of History, in the prestigious Prix de West Invitational and the Artists of America show in Denver. Past president of the American Society of Marine Artists, and a member of the Society of American Historical Artists, Blossom continues to achieve artistic honors including a Gold Medal for Oil from the National Academy of Western Art. Blossom sails as often as he can, sharing many trips with his wife and two young sons.
