"The hilarious story of one of St. Nick's alligators who was left behind after the toys were delivered one Christmas Eve."-ForeWord"Utterly entertaining."-New Orleans Times-Picayune"Fans of James Rice's illustrations, done in pen and ink with watercolor, will probably want to add this one to their collections."-Children's Literature Comprehensive DatabaseThis is only the beginning of poor ole Boudreau's woes. His children are noisily playing with their new Christmas toys, his head hurts, and he needs to get away. As he drifts down the bayou in the moonlight, Boudreau discovers a fat alligator left behind by St. Nicholas.Boudreau takes the good-humored alligator Pierre home to his family as a pet, and the children soon give him their full attention. But Pierre has other ideas. Just when he wonders if he should make his escape, a cute alligator named Louise makes eyes at him. And after some wooing with gumbo, the two decide to marry and raise a family.Old St. Nick doesn't have to worry that he'll never again see his gator friend. In the end, it's a very happy Cajun night after Christmas! After a Christmas filled with children, a dog, grandparents, neighbors, chaos, and laughter, sisters Jenny Jackson Moss and Amy Jackson Dixon felt inspired to write this book. Amy Jackson Dixon also illustrated Coleen Salley's first book, Who's That Tripping Over My Bridge? -published by Pelican-and lives in Colorado. Jenny Jackson Moss lives in South Carolina. Widely acclaimed as the South's leading illustrator of juvenile books, James Rice produced sixty titles, with more than two million copies in print. Rice was born on a farm in Coleman County, Texas, in 1934. He graduated with a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Texas, a master of fine arts degree from Stephen F. Austin University, and a master of arts degree in education from Howard Payne College. He taught art and music and was a favorite speaker at schools, nursing homes, and community centers across the country. Rice moved to Hico, Texas, in 1980, where he died in 2004.
