John Desmaretz grew up in the seventies. He was raised in a middle-class environment in a middle-class family from a middle-class town. He grew up with middle-class values. His sexual education was not much different than other guys coming from the same environment. So when it came time to make decisions relating to sexual relationships he used what was available: peer group philosophy. Somewhere along the line a question arose by his mother concerning God’s morality. Where did God’s values fit into his life? He realized he didn’t know. This sent him on a journey through the Bible to investigate what God really had to say about human sexual relationships. What were his laws and covenants? What was allowed and what was taboo? What he found was an array of stories and examples of sexual encounters and relationships, all designed to show us how to, and how not to, live our lives. There are a lot of stories that aren’t ever mentioned in Sunday’s sermons and for good reason.
