Jim Sole was born and educated in the Midwestern Swedish community of Lindsborg, Kansas, where he was graduated from Bethany College, and received a Master’s degree in English from Emporia State. He did advanced graduate study at Denver University. Sole taught part and full time for three decades at high school (Hutchinson, Kansas; Tacoma, Washington; Tampa, Florida) and college levels (Southwestern, Pacific Lutheran, Tacoma Community College, Seattle Pacific, Hillsborough Community College.) Sole was an educator, labor leader, and political activist for the Tacoma Education Association (TEA-PAC), and grant writer. He was a community schools coordinator. He received a National Endowment for the Humanities grant at Oregon State to study transcendentalism. Mr. Sole now lives in Indian Rocks Beach, Florida, where he is active in writing groups such as the Poetry Society of America, PINAWOR, Lifelong Writers (USF), Calliope Poets, and Writers’ Roundtable.
