Neil MacGregor was born in Glasgow in 1946. He studied at the Universities of Oxford, Paris, Edinburgh and London and was called to the Scottish Bar, before becoming a lecturer in the History of Art and Architecture at the University of Reading. He was editor of The Burlington Magazine from 1981 to 1986, and since 1987 he has been Director of the National Gallery. He has presented two previous television series on painting with the BBC: Painting the World and Making Masterpieces Erika Langmuir obe was formerly Kress Fellow at the Warburg Institute, Reader at the University of Sussex, Professor of Art History at the Open University, and head of education at the National Gallery from 1988 to 1995. She is the author of the National Gallery Companion Guide and several thematic National Gallery Pocket Guides and coauthor of the Dictionary of ArtNeil MacGregor is the author of 'Seeing Salvation: Images of Christ in Art', published 2000 under ISBN 9780300084788 and ISBN 0300084781.
