New History of the World

J. M. Roberts was a Fellow and Tutor of Merton College, Oxford from 1953 to 1979. Between 1979 and 1985 he was Vice Chancellor of Southampton University. He then returned to the Wardenship of Merton, from which he retired in 1994. He has also spent a considerable amount of time in the United States, holding posts at Princeton, Columbia University, the Institute for Advanced Study, and the University of South Carolina. He lives in Somerset, England Considered one of the great world historians of our age, Dr. Roberts is General Editor of The Short Oxford History of the Modern World and The New Oxford History of England, and has authored some of the most influential history books of the late 20th CenturyRoberts, J.
