Summary: For many young African Americans growing up in the 1950s old south, it meant being subjected to constant racism and restrictive Jim Crow laws. Jake Patterson, however suffered few of the indignations. His fiery grandmother taught him; he was equaled to everyone regardless to color, yet better than no one and to act accordingly.
